Marinol
      #237425 - 03/12/08 05:44 PM

I'm thinking about asking my doc for marinol....I am honest with her about smoking weed, and i would like to quit smoking everything, weed and cigs, but without weed i would have NO appetite, not to mention the other beneficial effects it provides, as those of you that smoke or use marinol well know. I'm just looking for some feedback on it and how well it works for you and the prices compared to weed...Thanks...Ray

I've been taking Marinol for a few years. It works pretty well. Cost wise....with my co-payment from my insurance it's a whole lot cheaper.

As far as the smoking thing. I quit cigs a couple of years ago. If it weren't for a few puffs off the pipe from time to time, I think I'd have caved back to cigs. One thing my doctor told me....if you're going to smoke pot...smoke through a bong. Better for the lungs to filter through water.

How much weed did (do) you smoke every day, and how much marinol is prescribed....I've been smoking for 24 years, so i'm trying to get an idea about a starting doseage to approach the doc with. Can you elaborate on the effects of marinol compared to reg. marijuana...better, worse,same...
Thanks
Ray

Hello Slitter
I'm also a long time pot smoker and now that I'm really sick I am not smoking at all. Ingesting it works really well for me. I live in CA so I have a legal recommendation and grow my own. So I use all the bud trimmings to make an alchohol based tincure or you can cook with pot oil (butter or something that has been simmered with the trimmings). I have no experience with marinol, but I know that it is just Thc not any of the other compounds that make pot what it is.
Beware when you ingest pot, it lasts much longer, takes longer to take effect etc. many people tend to overdose themselves the first time- not a big deal you just sleep for a loong time. so start small
But I do reccomend finding a grower and getting some of the trimmings because cooking with buds it to expensive.
good luck,
pete
ps did you notice Esmeralda's post was her 420 th post?!

Marinol is not as effective for most people as the natural herb. Your mileage may vary. IT tends to hit erratically and dosing is difficult with marinol just based on the ingestion vs smoked .

2.5 mg Marinol is what I was started on twice per day. Living in CA, I ended up just getting a recommendation and get the real deal. It truly does help on rough days with the meds / nausea, and overall with mood. Less is more though with smoked, and it's hard for some of us to learn when to stop hitting the pipe, but I have slowly but surely.
