Not yet on meds, still have a decent T cell count. Started taking Korean Ginseng. NAC, ST Johns Wort and Lysine (collagen, I am a little paranoid about wrinkles :) ) and a good multivit. Oh and plan to start breathing meditations with my BF (he noticed my breathing whilst asleep and said it sounded a bit stressed, its amazing BTW people, how good a few minutes of deep breathing can make you feel).
ANy other suggestions?
Would LOVE to hear them? ANy good websites? Books ?
My recommendations Deepak Chopras "ageless body, timeless mind" Madeline D'engel (for your soul) " a Wrinkle in TIme"
Peace/Salaam/Namaste

Natural remedies are just fine as long as you dont confuse them with actual MEDICINE. They are just what they say they are: herbs and vitamins. I have heard there are a few NOT to take with some of the meds but dont have that with me now.

Unfortunately there are no natural remedies that control viruses. General healthy living (exercise, diet, rest) is your best best until you need to go on anti-retrovirals.

In place routinely now; there are guidelines where the level of CD4 count and the amount of viral load determines the appropriate time for when to start treatment.
It is important to keep the body strong and healthy. Nutrition, vitamins, minerals, herbs and botanicals, alternative and complementary therapies; can be used to protect the body's healing system and boost the immune system.
These have enabled assistance and improvement in many ways: diarrhea, nausea, neuropathy, irritated skin and rashes, wasting, fatigue, loss of appetite, immune suppression and more.
Individuals have been very successful which enabled them to stay healthy and avoid the need for pharmaceuticals. As well, many people are including all of these along with the HIV/AIDS medications, with great success.
Along with your physician, it is important to have a naturopath and a dietician ( HIV/AIDS experienced) for support when deciding to use alternatives. Using alternatives with medications; one must have knowledge to ensure the alternatives do not affect the efficacy of the drugs.

I read somewhere that coenzyme Q-10 is good to take because it has good anti-oxidant properties - but same cautions as everyone else said - be careful of interaction with medicine, recognize supplements are only one part of the picture, and don't spend all your money on it.
My two cents - I have tried acupuncture for the first time tonight to combat stress and it was amazing - I'm more relaxed than after the best massage. And I've tried yoga - get a workout and reconnection to your body in at the same time. My biggest challenge has been in fighting stress -- I've been good about getting sleep, eating right, exercising - so I'm all for alternatives to help relax and those are my two suggestions. Less stress means better immune response.
You asked about books - I haven't found a great one yet but I can recommend AGAINST one - "Nutrition and HIV" by Romeyn -- it was lame. Save your money. I did think "the first year HIV" by Brett Grodeck is good if you haven't tried that yet. And finally - it's not on remedies but back to the stress thing, (and fair warning - it's a little "new agey" but I found "Positive Energy" by Judity Orloff really interesting - lots of great meditation exercises in there.

I have had real success taking 3 1/2 table spoons of organic virgin coconut oil daily, little hard on the stomach however in 3 months it reduced my viral load from 155,000 to 56,000 and raised my cd4 by almost 100 points. The coconut oil interacts with our body by creating multi chain fatty acids which break open the nucleous of the hiv virus allowing our white cells to attack and destroy it. There have been scientific studies with outstanding results. Good Luck

There are no known natural remedies for HIV. It would be nice if there were, but there aren't.
Coconut oil and all other tropical oils (such as Palm Oil) are terrible for your body...especially your cholesterol level.

Some good herbs are Astragalus and Reishi Mushroom. These chinese herbs are taken as a tea for immunity. Allheal (Prunella Vulgaris) and Honeysuckle Flowers (Lonicera Japonica) are regarded for their antiviral action. Be careful with St. John's Wort, it has caused Photosensitivity in some people. ---Brian

Be careful with St. John's wart especially AFTER starting HAART. St. John's wart can alter the levels of medication in the bloodstream....a very undesirable effect.

Honey child..... herbal medicine is a strange and confusing world to those like myself who know little about it. But believe me the Chinese and other cultures have been using herbs for centuries and in fact some of the medicines you buy off the shelf are composed of the same natural ingredients. They are only harmful if not used properly.
