I started Combivir/Sustiva a year ago. I've had great results. VL undetected. My doctor is suggesting the switch from Combivir/Sustiva to Truvada/Sustiva. Has anyone made the switch. What are the benefits aside from the once a day regimen. Any side effects to speak of. I hear it improves overall energy. My thinking is "If it aint broken, don't go fixin" I'm so confused. Heeeeelpppp!

you don't sound confused. you sound like you just need a hug. Well here it is. Feels good, huh? Have you ever owned a FORD? You are absolutely right: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Hey, i was reading somewhere that for there to be a positive effect on the immune system, we each need a MINIMUM of eleven {11} hugs each day. Do you get that ?? I don't either, but i hug myself alot. . . .and LAUGH a lot

I'm on Sustiva and Truvada, but I haven't ever been on Combivir. I too have heard that energy levels sometimes improve when switching to Truvada from Combivir (I've read that's true for those who don't even report symptoms).
The advantages of Truvada: once-a-day just like Sustiva Lower toxicity than Combivir Truvada (Viread and Emtriva combined together) is non-thymidine and therefore has not been associated with lipodystrophy or lipoatrophy
I guess in the end it's up to you to decide. if you're happy with Combivir and you're not suffering side effects such as lipo d/a, and adherence is not an issue, then you may want to stay the course. If you want the convenience or avoid some of Combivir's side effects, then a switch may make sense.
The only side effect I saw from Truvada was a loose stool for the first week. After that, things went back completely to normal. Food/no-food has no effect on Truvada. I just take it at the same time as the Sustiva.
Another nice thing...Gilead and Bristol Meyers Squibb are in a joint venture to put out a combination pill of Sustiva and Truvada possibly in 2006. At that point, it might actually be possible to have only one pill per day instead of two! (it will really just be a combination of the existing medicines)

I just made the switch. MUCH BETTER. Within two days, I noticed more energy and my mind, awareness, etc. are sharper. I suppose this might be a bit psychological because I expected a change, but my belief is that Truvada is much better than the Combivir. No other side effects either.

I SWITCHED FROM COMBIVIR TO TRUVADA FOR TWO REASONS, TO HELP STOP FAT WASTING FROM THE AZT, AND FIGHT FATIGUE. ALREADY FEEL LESS TIRED, THE FAT RETURNING WILL TAKE LONGER HOWEVER.... NO OTHER SIDE EFFECTS, AND JUST ONCE A DAY DOSING IS GREAT.
