It's a ripoff. No clinical studies have been done. You'd be better off taking a good multi-vitamin, doing something for your immune system like yoga and meditation (which helps with stress), drinking fresh organic juices and 5 fruit a day and doing lots of exercise. That's the best you can do for your immune system....

Manufacturer Agrees to Cease Unproved Claims About Noni Juice
By John Slovick

Claims that Tahitian Noni Juice can cure diseases are no longer being made by Morinda, Inc., the product's manufacturer.

Noni Juice has long been talked about in the HIV community as an alternative therapy for the treatment of HIV disease. Morinda, Inc. has claimed that its product can stimulate the growth of T-cells and restore immune function. The company makes similar claims of cures for diabetes, cancer, depression and a list of other diseases.

According to the attorneys general of Arizona, California, New Jersey and Texas, these claims make Tahitian Noni an unapproved new drug under state and federal laws. Without the approval of the Food and Drug Administration, which requires reliable, reproducible scientific evidence of a drug's ability to treat a disease, it is illegal to sell a drug for the treatment of a specific disease or diseases. Calling Tahitian Noni a drug under these conditions stops the manufacturer from using unproven claims to sell their product.

Under the terms of the multi-state agreement, Morinda, Inc., will:

Stop making claims that Tahitian Noni can cure, treat or prevent any disease until it is cleared for those uses by the FDA.

Make no other claims regarding the benefits of Tahitian Noni until the company can verify those claims.

No longer use consumer testimonials which imply that results are "typical" or "ordinary" unless the company can verify those results.
In addition Morinda, Inc. must pay the $100,000 used by the states mentioned above to investigate Tahitian Noni, and provide refunds to any consumer who requests a refund in writing.

This was in APLA in 1999

Here'sa great article I found from a nutrition expert:

Noni Juice – Is It Hot or Is It Not?

It must have been a sight in the olden days when an angry mob would tar and feather a snake oil salesman. Why would a group of people get that upset? What was the snake oil salesman’s crime?

From all accounts, these guys would gather an innocent group of unsuspecting folks and con them into believing his bottles of useless sugar water were some kind of miracle cure. He’d charge an arm and a leg for his cheap “magic” potion and then try to high tail it out of town –before the mob started heating up the tar.

The interesting thing about this is that the snake oil salesman is still alive and doing quite well today. And people are still getting conned into buying his “magic” bottles of sugar water. It’s sad but true.

But what does all this have to do with Noni Juice? Everything!

For example, Noni contains a so-called “miracle” ingredient named proxeronine which is supposed to be a precursor to xeronine. Now, have you ever heard of anyone dying from a deficiency of either proxeronine or xeronine? No, you haven’t? Have you ever seen either of these two elements on the RDA list? No? Well, have you ever seen any valid peer review research that proves anything whatsoever about these two ingredients? Of course not! And, more than likely, you never will.

There’s absolutely NO real science, NO real research and NO real proof – NOTHING – behind the Noni salesman’s hype that his bottles of sugary juice cures arthritis, ulcers, sprains, depression, high blood pressure, menstrual cramps and on and on and on. Well, you may ask, have these con artists ever been tarred and feathered? Yes, as a matter of fact, they have. Only it was a modern version of “tar and feathers.”

The Morinda company, who first hyped Noni Juice, has been busy settling legal actions taken against them by the Attorney Generals of California, Arizona, New Jersey and Texas. The charges? Making unsubstantiated claims about Noni Juice. Sounds like snake oil salesmen to me.

Noni is supposed to be a juice from the fruit of the Polynesian morinda citrifolia tree. That tropical island origin gives the Noni marketers some pretty exotic looking background pictures from which to hype their snake oil. And you might think that since it’s a fruit juice, it couldn’t taste all that bad. Not so. The citrifolia fruit is so bitter it has to go through some very hefty processing to make it palatable.

As a fruit, wouldn’t it have some nutritional value? After all, it’s being marketed as a nutritional product. Let’s see. A current independent laboratory test shows only miniscule amounts of B vitamins and virtually none of the antioxidants – vitamins A, E, carotenoids and flavonoids. Noni does have some vitamin C, but only 6 mg per serving, which means you’d have to drink 10 servings in one day just to get the RDA or minimum daily requirement for vitamin C. Noni also has some protein and calcium. But you’d need to consume 22 bottles for your bare minimum grams of protein. That would cost you around $860 a day. And, for calcium, you’d have to drink 50 bottles to reach the RDA for a woman (more if you’re pregnant – heaven forbid!) at a cost of almost $2,000 a day.

So, since there’s absolutely no valid research to back any claims for Noni’s “mystery” ingredients and since lab tests prove it has virtually no nutritional value, what does it have? It has the same thing snake oil salesman have been selling for decades – SUGAR WATER! Noni Juice is 96% high insulin producing carbohydrates. Then how can they sell so much to so many innocent people? They do it by telling misleading stories about the results they “say” you can get. Just like millions of snake oil salesman have also been doing for decades.

The Morinda company says “Noni Juice is smart nutrition.” I don’t think so! If you’re really smart, when the Noni Juice salesman gets out his bottles of sugar water, you’ll start heating up the tar and plucking the chicken. Gather a mob and scream, “No, No, Noni!” Because Noni is a great big NOT!

If you are interested in an Alternative way or a way that can be used in conjunction with western meds I suggest that you begin to read about nutritional supplements and also consider that anything and everything you put into your body has some effect. What kinds of food do you eat? There are tons of REAL research and data about Nutritional Supplements and Food and what influence they have in relation to chronic conditions and the toxicity's associated with chronic conditions (and treatment). May I suggest The New York Buyers' Club http://www.newyorkbuyersclub.org (of which I am the President) which is a non-profit information and low/no cost supplier of nutritional supplements that HAVE benefits shown via clinical data. But YOU need to learn and discover for yourself what you and your body need. We do not sell NONI Juice, as there is no DATA to back it up and the cost and distribution channels are prohibitive even if there were any benefit. I suggest that you take a good Multivitamin and get your diet in order. These two steps can have a great impact on your chronic condition and can help the western meds/HAART therapies that you may already be taking. Even if NONI has benefits they are probably not anywhere as great as the benefits or Boosts that you could MAINTAIN from an educated overall improved health approach. Please feel free to checkout some of our resources including our new New York Buyers' Club Catalog and Treatment Guide (Available Beginning February 26, 2005 as a free downloadable PDF Book online).

Hi, I think the 'snake oil' idea is silly. Why would people continue to buy something that is just a con?
Anyway, I've been taking Tahitian Noni juice for a few months now, and have had lots of positive results. So have family and friends. It can't hurt you, but it could change you life.

Despite the responses, I have been drinking the pure Tahitian Noni Juice for a couple months. Since it is all natural and an antioxidant, I decided I had nothing to loose. ( I already eat healthy, take vitamins and minerals reg.) I am not saying its for everyone, but there must be something in it that my body needs. After a few weeks on it, the fog in my head has cleared and my energy level has increased. My parents, skeptics, believe it helped me from sinking into depression. Which is where I was headed. I stopped it for a week because it is expensive and I thought it might all my be in my head. Needless to say, I am back on it and a firm believer. Again, I am not saying its for everyone or trying to sell a product. Just wanted to add an update to my question and my opinion.

Most of the elder people in my family drink Tahitian Noni. They all say they feel better drinking it. About a year ago, a cousin of my mine who is 30 had an unexpected pregnancy. When she was born, she had a hole in her heart (every 1 in 1000 babies are born with this) and had several surgeries. She never really got continued heart monitoring because according to the doctors she was "okay." When she became pregnant, the doctors discovered that she had a leak in her heart. She went to get several studies done and with her body changes, the condition was fatal. She started drinking 2 shots (2 oz.) of noni a day. On her next visit with her specialist, the doctor was amazed that her condition was no longer as severe as once diagnosed. She had to take anitbiotics 2 weeks before her due date just in case she got any infection that could affect her heart. ON her due date, she had a cesarean and her and baby have been very healthy since.

I heard from my traditional healer that Noni juice is bad for you...I was told that it is copmarable to bleach...so go figure. My father and I took Hawaiian medicine (herbal teas)...his cancer which was deadly was put in remission...I have been off asthma meds for almost four years now. Do not discredit alternative medicine but be careful as there are alot of scams and harmful stuff out there. Good luck..aloha..

No data, huh? Let's see - Neil Solomon, MD.,PHD author of NONI - NATURE'S AMAZING HEALER. He quotes approx. 35 sources either scientists or publications that explain Noni's properties. In the book The Noni Revolution by Rita Elkins, M.H., she quotes over 40 sources and gives two research web sites: International Noni Certification Council (INCC) http://www.incc.org. and Cancer Research Center of Hawaii: The Noni Study, http://www.hawaii.edu/crch/CenStudyNoni.htm. Unfortunately she does not include the company in her Resource Guide where I buy my Noni. It is www.nonialoha.com or www.noniconnection.com. It is a small family owned and operated Noni farm located on the Big Island (Hawaii) and is distributed out of Kailua, Oahu. I am a recurrent ovarian cancer patient who has not had to be on chemo since I started drinking Noni in April of 05. I am so glad I did not read any of the negative posts about Noni before knowing anything about it. My 2nd time around chemo was not working, so before starting my next new drug (Doxil), we went to Hawaii where we found individuals who are now healthy who had been sent home to die from advanced colon cancer. These encounters were completely 'accidental' and one of the gentlemen gave me a bottle of his homemade Noni. My lower back ache went away within three days (had it for years, and didn't expect Noni to help in this way!). My energy level started climbing (didn't expect this either!) and my brain was thinking clearer. Got home from Hawaii and blood work revealed a drop of 5 points! That was 3.5 months ago, and while my count has remained a little higher than the normal range, it is holding steady and not climbing. With recurrent ovarian cancer, it just does not stop climbing on its own! I tell everyone I come into contact with about Noni. The kind I drink is 100%, no juices or water added. I buy it by the gallon and it brings the cost, plus shipping, down to $11/qt - very affordable for most people. I drink 3 oz on an empty stomach in the a.m. and 3 oz at night. I don't know how long this reprieve will last, but I have enjoyed a wonderful chemo-free summer!! Please do your research on Noni before passing judgment on it, it is only the professional thing to do. Noni forever for me.
NancyH
