Don't be afraid of medications
      #8167 - 08/09/00 01:14 PM

No need for response...just a few thoughts of my own that may help someone else....I was diagnosed as hiv+ 5 years ago.... I am on 3 meds. And doing great.... My viral load is -50 ...due to the doctor that I am under for care...he has done so much for me and my husband...I highly recommend him to anyone...he is really great...I have been on zerit, epivir and a protease inhibitor called crixivan for 5 long years...my stats look great...platelets are great...cd4 is 874.... My doctor has really helped me a lot...no longer a smoker...no alcohol.... Drugs were never a part of my life...he tells me I will live to be a very old lady and I am 40 years old...have 2 wonderful teenagers who stand behind both me and my husband...they talk to their friends and schoolmates all the time...never any problems anywhere...so if you are not on a protease inhibitor...please ask your doctor about it.... I encourage each one who reads this to ask your doc about the protease inhibitors. I thank you for giving me a few moments...please keep me and my family in your prayers as I already include
each of you in mine

How normal a life can I have on the meds? I'm very active, love my sports and have a great career. After reading about all the side effects I'm scared out of my wits. Will my sporting days and carrer be finished once i start the meds? I feel great now, but cd4 is 350 and viral load 13000 but I'm sinking deeper into depression.

I'm on meds and run marathons--
Call (323) 993-1400 for information about the National AIDS Marathon Training Program Training. Chicago Marathon is on Sunday, October 22

Lots and lots of people living with HIV and taking meds are athletes

Thank you for your message of hope.
As just been diagnosed, I hear a lot of scaring stories.
It is good to have also the testimony of someone who is not experiencing side effects and can live a normal life.
Thank you for that.
Fabrizio

I too was just diagnosed. just came out of my first night with the meds. REALLY sick to my stomach, but it was ok cause that means its working!!! It wasn't any worse than a bad hangover and how many of you have had those!
I was scared at first but in a few days I won't feel that way any more and I can begin the road to recovery.

My thoughts are with you all!! :0)
