Just tested Positive
      #59534 - 02/27/03 03:37 AM

Hi, I've just tested positive 2 weeks ago. I told my partner that I am positive and he realy supported me and he went for a test, he is HIV negative. We've been together for 6 years now and according to the doctor I've been positive for 3-4 year in those year I was with him. We are very confused about this matter. After we saw the results we had an unprotected sex and he went for his test he was negative. Can that be possible?

Don't know if you are a heterosexual couple. If you are and you are the female then you should know that it's much harder for a male to get HIV from a woman. Also if you just had sex again, you have to wait three months from the last time you have unprotected sex to know for sure if he's infected. Lots of couples have had the same thing happen--I mean the female is positive for years and has unprotected sex with her husband and he doesn't get infected. I know a woman who had a baby and sex with a man for 3 years and then found out he was positive. SHe and the baby are negative. So it happens. Maybe your partner has a strong immune system or particularly amazing genes. Don't press your luck. THis could change. Use protection. BY the way, get the best and most experienced HIV specialist you can. Call the largest AIDS organization in your area and get a referral.

As you have seen exposure doesn't equal infection. However, it doesn't mean it won't happen. I kept testing negative when I went in for routine testing. With each test result we got more careless about protection. I got pregnat and then miscarried. After that I still tested negative. I guess I kinda figured if it hadn't happened after that, it wouldn't happen.

I've compared getting infected to road blocks in the past.

I live in the country and drive back roads to and from work. Once in a blue moon the police set up a roadblock to check licenses, etc. Now I could conceivable crack open a beer on the way home everyday and the odds are I wouldn't get caught. However, the day I encounter a roadblock with an open beer would not be a good day. It might happen next year, it might happen next week. Best bet. Act like everyday I could encounter the roadblock and just wait until I get home for that beer.

Same thing. Your best bet is to act like you could get infected the very next time and use protection.

i tested + in 97, my husband& i automatically assumed that he was + as well, since 97 we have had unprotected sex , never again, he was recently advised to be tested, & by the grace of God, his test came back negative, we will NOT be playing russian roulette in the future, i would rather die than risk infecting him.

very possible. i have had unproted sex with my husband since 97, we had believed him to be + as well. recently he took a test in order to start treatment by God's grace my husband was negative. you can believe that i will never take that risk again

sometimes it can stay dorment in your body for up to 7 yrs before it shows up. you may have gotten it before you meet him. i'm very sorry. i have a phone # for you, 1-866-798-2156. it is healthcare that will cover people with aids or hiv. i hope your partner doesn't think that you cheated, that would be sad. it is very possible that that it just took a few years to show up. good luck and i hope that that # is usefull. it can save you a lot of money. email me if you have any questions tiffanymccleney@yahoo.co.uk

Guessing Game Telling How Long You Have Had HIV new
      #106676 - 08/05/04 08:22 PM

They can only "guestimate" how long you ahve had HIV by your counts compared to the average HIV infection as a basis for the formula. The average human will take so many years to progress to aids from the initial infection date, so they can make educated guesses is all.
