persistent symptoms
      #3529 - 04/13/00 10:44 AM

I was exposed to viginal fluid. few weeks later i became sick with flu like symptoms and had a rash on the face and forehead. After that i felt fine till 6 to7 weeks later i develop pain over the URQ. I thought it was HPV. I had a test done at 45 days and 105 days and both results were negative. however, since the 105 day test i develped joint pain that i still have up till now. I developed funny shapes on my tongue which come and go. My joint pain does not go away and i also have some white little dots on my upper lips. I had my 6 months test and it was negative. I now have my lymph nodes hurting and sores on my lips are back. Can anyone tell me what are these symptoms and if anyone has had and tested (-) or (+) before after the 6 months period. Please help.

Have you been to a doctor? If not, it sounds like you should go. I had a similar experience (potential HIV exposure followed by flu-like symptoms consisting of weight loss, night sweats, sore throat, swollen and sore lymph nodes, and red sore areas all over my tounge). I also tested negative at 6 months, and even out to 19 months, which says there's no way it was HIV. In the meantime, some of these symptoms (like the sore red areas on my tounge) still flair up.

Don't get hung up on HIV. Negative at 6 months means negative. Learn from the rest of us who thought about this for way too long. See a doctor and find out what's going on (if anything).

I have been to a doctor at least 20 time in the last 6 months. I even went to a specialist. They can not explain what is going on with me except saying you have tested negative. I have done all different sorts of tests from HCV, HBV...to HIV. nothing has shown. Now my lymph in the neck are painful but not swollen. I have been to the doctor she told me that lymph get swollen before they even hurt. they been hurting for a week now but now swellness yet. It seems that symptoms are changing all the time. I do not know what to make of it.
Thank you for your reply.

Wow,

Looking around this group I've seen people who've had the same symptoms as me (night sweats, fever, white coating and red patches on tounge, spots in your vision etc) but still test negative after the 'window' period closed. There is of course lots of viruses which doctors can't check for and I'm sure there must be lots of immunosupressive viruses out there although may not be fatal still have worrying physical and psychological effects (despite my constant HIV -ve results because of my symptoms I can't fully relax and I have trouble with panic attacks and loss of sleep - all which may be making my symptoms worse!) My UK doctor told me that it's probably 'post-accute retroviral syndrome' which has basically tied up my immune system so other bugs can come in and attack me and it may take years to become fully healthy again. I have 2 recurrent yeast infections (oral and jock itch) but on further investigation they may have arisen from steriod treatments I was recieving for other conditions. I'd check in your past to see if the oral problems you've been having are a result of other medications even changing the toothpaste you normally used!
