just tested positive and CD4 already at 33!

Hi all,

This is my first post. I am a newly poz from Hong Kong, I got tested back in October. I got my first lab results yesterday and my CD4 is at 33 and VL is 29,000, so the doctor put me on meds right away (I taking Truvada + Efavirenz). I was probably infected a long time ago.

I took my first dose last night. Thankfully I went to work feeling fine this morning. I reckon I was also very lucky to be walking around relatively healthy with such low levels of CD4s in my system. I had some GI problems last month, but no major complains otherwise.

Now that I know my stats however I am *super* paranoid - I can't even go out to the supermarket or get on the bus without wearing a surgical mask...

Wish me luck.

- S

hey there, good luck. however, if you stick to your meds, you should see your CD4 count go up soon! plus, don't be paranoid. You can't transmit HIV through casual contact or coughing, sneezing, etc. And if you're worried about catching something from someone else, again with proper meds and healthy living, you should be fine. Either way, you don't need to wear a mask!

I live in Thailand, and know how Asia is - I would wear the mask. Make sure you change it a couple times a day. My CD4's are 403, and I am wearing a mask if I am in a shopping mall or riding my motorcycle. Also, A small bottle of hand sanitizer is a good way to keep your hands clean when soap and water are not available. I know others will balk, but keeping clean and sanitary is just smart while your immune system is trying to come back up.
