Is this PN?
      #234356 - 12/11/07 01:01 PM

My risk was unprotected vaginal sex with male of unknown status. This was 9 wks ago. I tested at 6 wks and 8 wks with rapid hiv test. Both test were negative. I know that the window period is 13 wks for conclusive. My question is for the past 5 days I have been experiencing numbness and pins/needle feelings in my feet and hands. Especially in my hands. Can this be PN so early on? It feels like an electric shock. I feel tired and sore all of the time. The other night even my family told me maybe I should see a Dr. because I don't look so good. I am certain that I will test positive at my 13wk test. I saw my Dr. yesterday and told her my symptoms she took a bunch of blood to test and said that I am 28 yrs old and I shouldn't be feeling this. I told her about my risk and she told me she doesn't think its HIV. But I know it is. I just wish this could all be over now so I can start meds and get rid of this pain in my hands and feet, sore throat and fatigue. Has anyone ever had PN during seroconversion?

I'm sure it's always so helpful to those that are dealing with the 'shock and awe' of recently finding out they have HIV to come across posts such as yours.

Is there any reason you are posting this question on this particular board and seeking information from people that are trying to deal with an ACTUAL postive diagnosis and all that entails? It's a rough transistion with a lot to learn and deal with. I'm always mystified as to why the Worried Well feel they are entitled to stomp around to any old board and want answers.

Most people that are infected will test positive by 6 weeks. While it is still the CDC stance that 13 weeks is needed for a conclusive test, it is extremely rare that someone now tests negative at 6 weeks and then postive at a later time. Since you have 2 negative results it's extremely unlikely that you have become HIV+ and you should be expecting yet another negative test at 13 weeks.

You may very well believe that you do have HIV. Most worried well swear they do. However until such time that you actually get a postive result....there is a board set up for those that are concerned they have put themselves at risk. You know which one it is.

I am sorry if I have offended anyone by posting here. I was just looking to see if someone went through what I'm feeling right now and then later tested positive. Again, please accept my apology. I will do my posting in the "Am I Infected" forum.

I’m sorry you’re feeling poorly and that you are worried it is HIV but I seriously doubt it is. Do take another test (and another if you are still worried) if for nothing else than your own peace of mind. It is my experience that PN mostly appears in the later years of HIV. Also keep in mind that this is flue season, or your symptoms could be due to seizures, hypoglycemia or any number of things it could even be PN that is not HIV related.

I know it is hard not to worry but do try to keep yourself busy and without closing your eyes to everything else (by saying things like “I know it is”) get to the root of what is really going on rather than jumping in and not looking at all the possibilities.

Good luck,
Crystal

hey, i was a rare i think in that i didn't feel any symptoms during seroconversion but my advice to you is: don't speculate and get yourself all worked up for nothing. You are doing the right thing in getting medical attention. It's smart to prepare yourself for the worse case scenario (ie: testing positive or worse - it could be something worse than HIV like a cancer that is difficult to treat, etc). While it's mature for you to be prepared it is just as likely, if not more likely, that your symptoms are related to a non-hiv-related problem that could be very easily remedied. so my advice as a person who was recently diagnosed with hiv and who deals with worrysome situations daily (regarding work, personal etc) is try to relax and let it go... you've done all you can and until you get the test results it only makes you stressed (which is not good on your health) to make up these scenarios in your head. If it is positive you will deal with it and get treatment, which is much better than not knowing and the disease getting worse. If it's not HIV you will be relieved and hopefully get treatment for the ailment. so basically Im telling you to chill out, you did the smart thing, all you can do and it's time to wait. BTW: did you get the results??? Hope this helps, sorry to be so preachy!
