      #22262 - 09/11/01 01:20 AM

Hi,
We are planning to have protected sex, what are realistic risks for the neg partner with open mouth(french kissing). Someone please help.
Thanks!

Hi there. I just tested positive this year, and since then have been dating a negative person. I was extremely curious about your exact question as my partner and I enjoy kissing greatly.

Between asking my doctor and researching the internet, I found that the general consensus about HIV transmission through kissing is not possible. There simply no evidence that it happens. Even though HIV can be isolated in saliva, the concentrations are probably too low to cause infection.

Furthermore, after 20 years of this epidemic, if transmission was possible through kissing then there would be documentation of its occurrence by now.

Hope that helps. Take care and be safe.

No documented risk. So kiss away. Just don't floss beforehand.
