headache
      #220501 - 01/02/07 12:36 AM

I've had headache and sleepless night after being diagnosed 3 days ago. My neck (near thyroid) and head felt heavy. I wonder if the virus are attacking this region. I must have contracted the virus 6 months ago where my lymph nodes started swelling. Are these common symptoms and should I start taking med? Pls help.

Hi CCK. I am fairly newly diagnosed and you sound very anxious. It is heart-breaking news, but do not over-react just yet. You need to see your doctor (or a different physician) and have them answer your questions. Don't just throw your hands up and think you need to start on meds until you have all the necessary information to make an informed decision. Our minds can play tricks on us when we hear this kind of news. I do not know about the swelling lymph nodes, perhaps some one else can address this. I'm only aware of flu-like symptoms early on. I hope you find a way to sleep. Make an appointment to see someone soon okay?

Take Care!

JUST BEING DIAGNOISED THREE DAYS AGO COULD MEAN SEVERAL DIFFERENT THINGS. MANY PEOPLE ARE DIAGNOISED NOW, BUT HAVE HAD HIV FOR MANY YEARS. YOUR PROMPT CARE FROM AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE DOCTOR WILL SECURE YOUR FUTURE HEALTH. BEING DIAGNOISED NOW MEANS YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THE BEST MEDICINE AND INFORMATION THAN EVER BEFORE. THERE ARE MANY "COMMON SYMPTOMS"--I HAVE SEEN POSTER LISTING AS MANY AS 15 DIFFERENT SYMPTOMS(AND I HAD ALL OF THEM ONCE I READ THEM). THE BEST THING WE CAN DO IS GET PROFESSIOANL AND ADEQUATE CARE FROM A INFECTIOUS DISEASE DOCTOR, NURSE PRACTIONER OR CARE-GIVER HOPEFULLY CONNECTED WITH AND AGENCY(ASO) THAT CAN HELP YOU ON ALL LEVELS WITH THIS DISEASE. THE FIRST STEP IS ACKNOWLEGEMENT, THE SECOND STEP IS ARRANGING FOR GOOD CARE. GO FOR IT AND LIVE LIFE TO ITS FULLEST--DW

Thank you so much for the advice. You sound very calm. I remember the doctor's face when he informed me of the test results. He seemed more shocked than me. He adviced me to see a HIV specialist.
I know I need to start monitor my CD4 count before deciding whether to start med. Yes our minds can play tricks on us and I admit emotional stress is worse than physical. Will make an appointment sometime next week. am still working now.
I do chanting before I sleep each night and hv gotten better.
I think you are pretty cool regardless of your recent diagnosis. Things will get better for us all, I pray. Thanks again and hope to keep in touch with you.

Your headache and sleeplessness have more to do with dealing with your new status. Both headaches and sleeplessness are stress symptoms and who wouldn't be stressed just learning they have HIV. It gets better.

I don't know why I'm calm. I do feel very optimistic about staying well and for a very long time and hopefully w/out meds. At least that's the attitude I've chosen to take. My motto all my life is "I don't do pills!" I have taken antibiotics once in my life and have never been very sick ever. There is also good information out there and we all need to stay educated on this virus. Hope you're doing well today!

I'm feeling allright today. THANK YOU! I also hope to stay well w/out meds. Went to see the doc this morning and he got me an appointment next week to examine my CD4 count.
I noticed my skin easily got rashes and bruised nowadays, possibly of lowered immunity. Started taking garlic and probiotic today, hope they work for me too. I read about you taking Oregano oil. Is it really efficient? Where can we get this thing? Hope you re doing great today!

You need to discuss with your dr. about treatment. When I first tested poz my nodes swelled and I overall felt like shit. This is normal because the 1st 6 months is when the virus is attacking at it's strongest because it's a foreign object in your body. You will be ok.

HI CCK. I am just sharing things that I have chosen to try, things that are natural. If you would like to know more about Oreganol P73, I suggest you do a search under Google with Oreganol P73 benefits. They have interesting sites that explain what it does for you. If you try it, you can apply it topically to your skin. And when you go for your results, just make sure you let your doc know what you're taking. The "specialist" asked what it was. I found it interesting that they seem to know primarily about drugs and aren't motivated necessarily about alternative or natural therapies. I n the past, I would hate when they just slap out the prescription pad before I'm even done explaining what I'm experiencing.

Take Care!
Mscaramele

Dear Mscaramelle, thanks again. I agreed with you to try natural therapies before embarking on drugs. I don't like side effects. M currently taking evening primrose, fish oil, probiotics, enzymes and plenty of veges and fruits. Hope there won't be skin outbreaks after this. Take care too and you've been a good friend.

Hi again, I think you have made some good choices. My girlfriend who works at the Health Food Store gave me some great info on enzymes and I am meaning to incorporate them into my regimen. I doubt you will have skin outbreaks from the natural things you are taking. How are the headaches? Have they subsided? Hope so. Enjoy your Sunday!

just a word to help over anxieties etc: i am living since 22 years with the virus - i feel quite ok. what helped me a lot: going public with the news and now since since app 10 yrs one could call me an aids activist, doing all sorts of national & international awareness raising & mingling in the aids context. remember: the virus does not rule our lif - my life does !

all the best

petra from germany
