Amin! I couldn't agree more. As a 30 year old who just tested + recently, I cannot tell you how much I am looking forward to getting struck by a buss or dying of heart attack. Not that I am suicidal, I'm just optimistic that I will live a long and healthy life despite being +. Cheers!

Ask your self this one question, How long do you want to live? What are you prepaired to do to live that long? Here are a few things that you may find helpful. Smoke QUIT!, Drugs and Alcochol QUIT!, Risky sexual behavior above all QUIT, You can kill yourself even faster by multi level infections as well as become imune to medications and treatments by practicing in unsafe sex. Seek medical attention NOW! Get on board with a good HIV Doctor, Talk to him or her, Ask questions and get the answers you need. Get rid of all the stress you can and learn to live each day, not as your last but each day making the best decisions you can about your health. I have been hiv positive for 2 yrs now, currently I am drug free and my Doctor and his staff all say the same thing. You have the best out look of any one in our clinic. Think Positive, Live positive and be Positive as you go forward. You may just suprise your self at exactly how long you can live! Good luck to you!

ummm, at age 51 I contracted the hiv virus, and now, 17 years later, at age 68, I'm doing very well. It's a manageable disease nowadays, and you will benefit from a quarter century of medical and drug research/experience.
How long will I live? .... good question, probably less than 40 more :-) In addition to the previous blogs, here's stuff you may try: Get an experienced doctor Stay medically informed (be your very own doc) Eat a healthy diet (Mediteranean, say) - read up on nutrition Exercise - get a trainer if you have the cash Get enough rest No smoking. If you drink, cut to max one drink/day -wine is good Learn how to relax and pace tourself Learn meditation & yoga Try yoga, acupuncture, massage Spiritual life - develop and practice it
Cheers, hombre, your life is in your hands!

I am a long term survivor, was dx with AIDS in 1989, had almost all of the oportunistic infections, PCP 3 x, Lymphoma, CMV Retinitis (blind in one eye) and viral encelphlitis and was suppose to die in 1996. I am now 50 y/o, working full-time as a social worker and going back to school for my masters in gerontolgoy. I am a walking miracle. Your chances of living a long life a very good. Look at me I have clinical aids and you are only HIV +.

Don't be affraid. I'm positive since 1991, and I'm now with 58 years plenty of health and working full time in a very difficult way, traveling all the time to very remote place in brazilian rural areas, working more than 60 hours/week. God bless you!

I tested positive in 1985 at the age of 29, before AZT or support groups even existed. Just celebrating my 50th birthday and am very healthy. I've always taken excellent care of myself-diet, exercise, rest, and for the last 12 years medications. If you really want to live to see 80 or 90, I see no reason why you can't achieve that. Listen to your doc, love yourself, and have a great life.
