Tested poz early this month
      #195356 - 06/10/06 07:38 AM

Being a gay man I have a HIV test every six months.
The last one was positive I am 37 and really let my guard up being my age and not being positive.
I was infected by someone who was unaware they were positive so I really harbor no ill will towards the person, at first was not going to even tell them, but another friend said I would feel guilty if they infected another person because they remained unaware. Letting him know went well for both of us and we are still good friends.
My MD was really great about telling me my diagnosis she let me know that while my life will be more complicated from here on out, the treatments have really come a long way and with proper treatment there is no reason why I shouldnt remain healthy.
I am going to schedule an appointment with an infectious disease specialist who both my MD and I know and respect.
Shold be going by the end of the month I am a little worried what my numbers will be, but since I was most likely infected in late Dec. don't think it would have progressed to a danger level yet.
I really suspected I had been infected when I had the classic symptoms of an early infection in january (severe flu like symptoms that lasted about a week, and swollen lymph glands)
So while the diagnosis was not entirely a shock to me it still was not what I wanted to hear, but life goes on and I am going to do what it takes to manage this disease.

Welcome to TheBody Thv... "Water under the bridge". You have a very good attitude and that is as it should. Things will change, but not enough to make your life less than what it always could be. Its all in how you play the game esp in your head. Keep talking, find a HIV doc who you trust, and who will be a friend long term and care about you. You and your ID Doc will manage your condition with a major imput from you. You have set the wheels in motion. Now, do not put the breaks on in your life waiting for your numbers to roll in. Dont get on that wagon. Everyday is precious, HIV actually will show you that each day is pretty fucking wonderful. And, you have a whole heck of alot of em ahead of you. Make em count, like anyone hiv +ve -ve should... Keep us apprised of your progress and continue to post and talk. If you have any questions, dont hesitiate to ask.. Thats why we are here!

Love

Woof! Yes of course I had unprotected sex, seems it would be rather difficult to be infected otherwise.
I wasnt even going to qualify that with an answer because it seems at this point it shouldnt matter, the time is to move forward. Hopefully warn others as to the dangers while being very careful to not come across as lecturing.
I have had friends who were infected and said they used protection, but however barring failure or misuse of a condom I find that difficult to believe. I think people who say such things are no help to anyone and create paranoia where there should be none.
After all I think that having protected sex with someone who tells you they are positive and someone who doesen't because they think otherwise you will not have sex with them would yeild the same amount of risk...........negligible at best, chances of hitting a large jackpot in the lottery are likely better.

Would like to thank you guys for the support, I will be seeing the Doc. in July. I feel healthy and am not going to worry about my numbers till they come in. I am not going to let this get me down life goes on and I am really too busy to be overly concerned, figure I will do what it takes and live life to the fullest, wheather I have 2 or 20+ years remaining.

That's a great attitude to have!!! But its still important to take care of yourself. Living life to the fullest doesnt mean a coke party every night!!!............... for example ...lol.
Check in when you can, my friend.

LOL quite true. Do my best to take care of myself, no coke here have tried it and it makes me high for a brief time, then I just want to sleep, not my idea of a good time. Then again don't suppose I would be a bear for long if I did coke regularly, not to mention it probably would be hell for my immune system.
Now weed on the other hand, well don't suppose that is really anymore dangerous than cigarrettes though, maybe less so, it is all natural.

True, suppose trying to say no matter how many years I do have I will make the best of them, and deal with the fact I am now poz.
Think I have dealt with the fact I am now poz well but already realize you really think about life in a whole different light when you test poz.

Thank you SF. I have always tried to live with an inner peace and feel that has helped me take news that many would find devastating, and decide it is not going to rule my life. Or make me bitter or even harbor ill will towards anyone, after all I was well aware of the risks and decided to take them.
While I cannot go back and undo what has been done I can move on with my life and do what I must to have a happy and long productive life.
Hugs, Thevillebear
