negative at 6 weeks, positive at 13 weeks?
      #170588 - 01/20/06 04:25 PM

I've got another week to go until my 13 week test. My 6 week came back negative. What are the chances that the 13 week could be positive if the 6 was negative? Did any of you test negative at 6 weeks and then positive at 13 weeks?

With the new third generation tests, antibodies are detectable within 3- 4 weeks and the vast majority by 6 weeks. Even the old first generation tests could detect antibodies by 45 days. Thus you are most likely negative, but get the three month test for peace of mind if your exposure was high risk.

you are over the 90% mark and unless you have a auto immune disease it looks as if you are negative.

I was negative at 6 weeks but then positive after my 6 month retest. No signs of sickness either.

third generation test have been out for awhile and there are people on this site that have took more than the 4-6 weeks to seroconvert, i understand that we all need comfort and reassurance but the rule of thumb is 13 weeks is a definitive test, love and peace

That's interesting. Perhaps you can clarify...how could you have been negative at 6 weeks when in previous posts you've stated that you were, if I recall correctly, infected sometime in 2004 or 2005. Such a broad time range would indicate -- at least to me -- to me that you don't know when exactly you were infected and thus could not have tested negative at 6 weeks. No?

Out of curiosity, when did you test positive? Tests have improved dramatically over the last two to three years & have to be able to identifiy seroconverter samples during trials in order to be approved for use-- at least in Europe.
