Getting HIV result tomorrow

I am very scared. I have been told that the risk was very low and so low that one of the ASO counsellers would bet everything she has that I would be ok. With the sympthoms I have, I am quite certain that I've already been infected. My life has been ruined and don't know what to do. My mind has been going crazy. I thought of committing suicide many times but then I had to get the result first. I don't know how to tell my wife and I don't want to see my wife suffered. Why can't be a cure? How long do we have to wait? I've been trying to tell myself to be strong but it is not working. I might have been co-infected with other diseases such as HCV or infected with drug-resistance strain. I spend months reading about this HIV on the internet but the more I read the more I am frighten. I don't know anyone else who is HIV+ and I am very lonely and hopeless. I don't know how I can face this disease. Can anyone help?

If your risk is low, try not to worry so much. although I know how crazy you must be going, it is a very scary thing. HIV is very managable now, it can be just as controlled as diabetes, but the only way you can help it is by knowing. You spending way too much time concerning yourself w/ the possiblity of a resistant strain. take it one step at a time. first, you need to know your results, and it will be hard for a little while, but you are reaching out to the right places. Talk to people, you won't feel so alone. This I can tell you is the scariest part...in the beginning. Things will be okay. I know you must be afraid of telling your wife also, but she loves you, and would want to be there for you, especialy if she thinks you may get sick. I don't know the circumstances around how you contracted it, but please keep me posted on how you are. You are not alone. I will pray for you, and keep you in my thoughts.

Good lord, what did you do to expose yourself to HIV, HCV, and others??
Get your results and then talk to your wife. And do NOT touch her sexually until you know for sure. She doesn't deserve to pay for whatever YOU did.

I am to assume that by now you have your results from the testing and would be interested to know what the results were???? If you are positive than at least you know and will be able to get the proper medical treatment you need to live a long and healthy life...you will be able to inform your wife so she too can be tested so she knows where she stands with this illness as well. It is important and I must stress this that you do tell your wife about your status. Trust me, Iknow what fear and pain of knowing you have this disease can do to a persons mind BUT this illness is not as bad and as terrible as the things you are reading anymore. The meds now are much more advanced and people are living a normal and happy, healthy life now! You must believe that!!!! I look forward to hearing from you as to your results and then we all can talk more...If you are negative than I will say"thank God, you have a second chance here and move forward safely in your life"...Good luck to you and I look forward to hearing from you about your results..my prayers are with you(of course) that your results are neg....~Jessie~

Hi I am writting to let you know I have been positive for 15 years there are meds out there that can help you I hope all goes well for you and I am glad that you took the steps to get tested it is a big deal but am sure things will work out for you remember God will not give you more then you can handle take care hope we can talk good luck with everything

I really appreciate all of you who replied. I was expecting the worst when I went for the test result. I went to the doctor's office early that morning. While sitting in the waiting room, my whole body was shaking and my hands were sweating. I tried to calm myself by not thinking. When it was my turn, my heart almost went through my chest. My doctor called the nurse on the phone a couple times right before I stepped in to his office. I thought it was going to be bad news. Thank God. My doctor told me all STI and HIV tests came out negative. This was 10 week test. My doctor asked me to do the final (13 week) test when the time comes. I had enlarged lymph nodes on my neck on and off for the last couple months. My PN problem, dry mouth, shortness of breath have bothered me for the last three weeks. I really hope that things are going to be ok. I am very happy that someone actually care to reply my original post and I thank you. God bless us all...

Hey, that is really good news..you should be able to be at peace now with your results..Please in the future, use this as a lesson learned and be protected...
I prayed real hard for you, I just want you to know that..I do know what it feels like to go through that torment of waiting and wondering and having all these effects of my body BUT you need to understand that STRESS will caise all sorts of things to happen to your body as wella s your mind...The mind is a very powerful thing and can and will cause all sorts of problems..I am not saying that your lymph nodes are not swollen or that yopu dont feel some sort of pain or discomfort BUT right now you are negative and I hope for your sake that this was something that scared you enough to be safe in the future...Condoms are there and around for a reason..PLEASE BE SAFE!!!!! I am soooo very glad for you...Please enjoy your life, healthy and happy....your original post has touched a place in my heart and I feel lucky to have been able to reply and go through all of this with you...and with everyone that replied as well....Your 13 week test will be fine!
