I'm a female teen whos HIV positive
      #29997 - 03/17/02 04:56 AM

Hello,
I'm new here. I'm 13years old and I'm HIV positive. I don't know alot of teens who have AIDS/HIV and I'm starting to want to have more contact with teens like me. It gets boring talking to my dad about all my teenage issues that always end up having me ask, "Is it going to be different because I have AIDS/HIV?" And to tell you the truth, he doesn't know what to say anymore. I live in Hawaii. Both my birth parents died and as you may have guessed, I'm adopted. My dad died when I was little from AIDS and cancer. I ended up living w/ my Aunt (my mom now) and her ex-boyfriend (my dad now). When I was 9 we had gotten word that my birthmom was hit by a car and was dying. She did after a few weeks or so. I never knew my birth parents. I had a half brother who died before I was born. My whole birth family is dead. I have a little sister. But once again, I'm adopted. I wish I had had a brother who I could talk to about my teenage problems. I'm not open about having HIV here because people aren't as well informed as they are in other places. I'm sure their better informed then before but we (I) still think I'd rather not say anything. And that another thing. I have no teenage companions to talk to about sex and stuff mixed with living with HIV. I don't think they would get me as well as I'd like them to. I understand that, but does anyone understand me? I have to ask my self that at least 100 times a day now. I have dreams or becoming a actress or singer or writer. Oh yeah, I forgot to say that I was born with HIV. And yeah, I have dreams too, just like any teenage girl would. I know you understand but it's just that I've never had anyone to say back, "I understand you completely!" And so all I really want is to be able to ask and talk about life but with someone who knows how it is.
I'm going on and on... But if you want to e-mail me, please do so at: Dreamer6000@juno.com
Thanks for your time, Milla

Dear Milla ; i'm a 32 female that has been living 2 types since i was 17. i can understand some of your mixed emotions even though i'm not a teenager .think positive, some people can be cruel, ignorant or just plain scared but you know that you have to keep your head up and find a support group of people that care and love as you are.family doesn't always have to be blood related honey, i'll tell a story my new hubby lost his father when he was 6, his mother left with his brother and his wife ,she came back for him when ,he was 21 she was dying scirrosis to the liver.his brother that raised him just died of heart attack.my hubby is 30 from argentina. my little sister and i were raised by my dad,my mom left us when we were children, she didn't want the responsibilities.
My bestfriend Vanessa is pregnat at 29 single mom no family in this country. My dad sister chela sweetest woman is like a mother to all of us and her kids. she has one son mundy ,he is doctor in peru.mundy is coming to visit us for the summer here in california and all love like a brother even my hubby is always on the phone with him. FAMILY IS THE GOODNESS AND KINDNESS OF PEOPLE AND THEY DON'T HAVE TO BE BLOOD RELATED. GOD BLESS

Wow! You are obviously very educated and mature, especially for a 13-y/o.

I am sorry that you have had to deal with so much at such a young age. No one should have to endure everything that you have but you have obviously risen above all of the obstacles life has thrown at you. I am in total awe and admiration of you...

I really don't know what to tell you about finding friends your age that are HIV+ as well, but I do know that they are out there. The internet is a wonderful place to search. You may not find someone you can go to the mall with, but you will find someone you can share your life and daily struggles with who will fully understand. I have heard of summer camps for HIV+ teens and would completely recommend attending one. I don't know anything of cost or location but, like I said, the internet is THE place to go for more info.

I wish you luck in all of your aspirations for your future. Anytime you want to talk, feel free to PM me. I may be getting pretty old (25) but I have teenage nephews and neices who talk to me about everything they can't tell their parents about so maybe I can help.

--------------------
It's you that I live for and for you that I die.
So I'll lay here with you until the final goodbye
