I feel this is a stupid question, but a healthcare worker at a local hiv clinic scared me. I have a friend who is hiv+ and recently he spit in my face (accidentily) and it got into my eyes. He's not on any meds. The healthcare worker said that I need to get tested now and in 3 months, but the CDC says that saliva does not transmit hiv....any positive/negative couples have this happen to them? Is this a concern?

The last thing I heard about saliva, was that a person would have to drink over a gallon of saliva to become infected.
Because it may have entered your eye may or may not make this more serious than simply a saliva-to-saliva exchange. I'm not sure. If a healthcare worker said to get tested now and in 3 months, what's the harm in doing so?
My two cents...

According to the infectios disease doctor here, normal spit would not infect you. But if the spitter were to have severe advanced gingivitis or a general bleeding in the mouth due to recent dental work, then there may be a chance. But the spit would have to be absorbed into your body through some orifice or into the eyes

If I'm not mistaking, I think that spit in your eye can not give you HIV.But as long as you didn't get it in your mouth I think you're okay.
