Although it's hard, you need to think of your partner first and foremost here.
He is the one who got the really terrible news, not you. Hurt feelings or a sense of betrayal are nothing in the long run compared to what he will deal with. That is not to be negative: in this age of treatment he will do very well for a very very long time if he gets a good doctor and follows that doctor's instructions.
Be supportive, be understanding, let him feel what he's feeling but help him. You'll be glad you did.
And give yourself a break while you're at it; you're only human!

When my partner was diagnosed +ve, I had mixed feelings too- I was angry, sad and confused all at the same time. Then I took a few days to find out as much information as possible about treatment options, support etc. And simply be there and be supportive is the greatest help you can be. Don't forget that your partner is probably feeling the same way too. It helped me a lot to have someone to talk to, either another +ve friend or a specialist counsellor. Good luck to you both. Believe it or not, his +ve diagnosis has drawn us much closer than before.

My partner and myself are HIV positive, can having sex with
each other make it speed up the process. What happens with
two infected persons like ourselves?

I so admire those who stand by there partners when a positive diagnosis is made. After 6 very special months I tested for the first time to'get more intimate'.I was positive, fell apart and he ended our relationship 11 days later Then I really fell apart. It is a chronic and now manageable condition and perhaps early counselling may have helped

I just found out the day after my birthday that my partner tested positive. I am trying to get a handle on my emotions but I am devastated. I had been with him 6 years and we were always safe. I told him not to cheat on me and if he did to always be careful. I was the type that did not do anal intercourse and the last weekend in May he had unprotected sex. He says he was drunk and he took my love for granted. I am having many trust issues and strong feelings of betrayal. I had given my whole life to him. 2 weeks after he had unprotected sex he allowed me to do oral sex - he never told me what he did until the day after he told me he was HIV positive. My heart is aching so much and I feel numb. I feel he did not care about me or his family or my safety. I am scared I may be positive too. I just did a home access hiv test...I can not stop crying and I want to die...I am so confused and sad.

I hope you are allright. The weeks after infection is the most infectious time. He was very very wrong to cheat on you and have unprotected sex with someone else and then not use protection with you. Did you get your results? Are you still with him?
