Need Help
      #40438 - 09/20/02 04:07 AM

My friend has taken Stavudine, Lamivudine and Nevirapine for a month. At the end of the month her Doctor found in a Blood test increased SGPT (550 U/L), SGOT (310 U/L) and Alkaline Phosphatase (1080 U/L).
In two days after a repeated test the readings decreased almost by half (SGPT:320 U/L, SGOT 147 U/L). The Doctor made her stop taking the anti retroviral medication for a week and she believes that Nevirapine is the cause and it should be replaced.
What my friend and mine worry is about the adverse effect the suspension may result in her, and her treatment. Can somebody please tell us what we should expect?

Hi: The web has a lot of info. on the clinical pro's and con's of "drug holidays" (albeit brief). Try entering 'drug holiday' and HIV/AIDS into Yahoo and it should pull some good sites up. Do, of course, be careful re: info. found on net, :), and discuss with HIV specialist. Take care and God Bless, J

Is she seeing an HIV specialist? It's crucial that she see someone who has loads of experience. Call the largest AIDS organization in your area and get a referral...
Also ask the doctors on this site some of your questions.
