My partner has aids
      #213669 - 11/02/06 03:44 PM

Just looking for some support as to how to handle my problem. I feel very overwhelmed at what we are facing as a couple

Hi
I know its bad news when someone says " my partner has Aids". It means that your partner has been HIV positive for quite some time and that he is now facing a diagnosis of AIDS.
Well my partner got the AIDS diagnosis in 1995 and he is still here and doing pretty well. He goes to the gym and works out as regularly as possible, quit smoking and drinking and eats a pretty strict diet. He got Disability from his job and applied for SSD and got that. He sees his doctors regularly and takes his meds on time. Its not easy but its doable.
It helps to have support. Do you guys have family, friends or other support? Also it is important for you, the caregiver, to take care of yourself.

We don't have that support that we need to make sure that we can have support. We are both trying very hard to cope with it. and we find it harder as the days go on. He was diagnosed with HIV along time ago and he and I stopped having sex so I wouldn't get it. I still loved him so I married him and now, He has AIDS and it is really scaring me. I have no idea where to turn. I feel so lost.

Marcus Jeff....I am so sorry you feel so bad. If you do not have a support system it makes life difficult. Is your partner hooked up with any AIDS Service Organization? Have you talked to his Doctor to see about a social worker being assigned to him?

We are looking into some things. We heard about this site and he said it would help us out with support

or about AIDS arms
http://www.aidsarms.org/index.asp?sect=give

Is he on treatment? Even people woith a lot of resistance can do well on new treatments.
