If a child was born or contracted hiv as a child, would they eventually exhibit syptoms when they are older? I thought they would but read somewhere that a child got it as a baby (through pregnancy) and went all the way to college before they found out! My sister has hiv and had a baby when she had hiv and she won't have the child tested. (now 6)..... They did not test the baby when it was born....

Confidentially concerning HIV is a sticky matter, but I do believe that in cases of minors a court, if all else fails could order a test.
The simplest thing if your sister refuses to give consent to get the father to give consent. It only takes one parent's signature.
Some states have no age limits as to parental consent for testing in clinics.
It sounds as if your sister just can't deal with the reality or guilt if her child is HIV+, but the harm she is doing by not providing proper medical care if the child does have HIV outweighs her right to chose for her child.

Honey, someone needs to have that child tested especially before the child grows up and becomes seuxally active. What is wrong people.... We need to think about the welfare of others and stop being selfish and only thinking about ourselves. This attitude is how this diases is spinning so out of control. And so many others are infected.
