Heart Attack in Long Time Survivors
      #177046 - 02/24/06 03:45 PM

My partner nearly had a heart attack this past August. He didnt because his doctor diagnosed "angina" and sent him to the emergency room, he was admoitted to the hospital. Tests etc indicated a blocked (nearly 99%) artery. He had the "stent" operation where they put a tube into the artery where its blocked.
What the story doesnt tell is WHY he had a blocked artery. He has lipodystrophy, where the liver does not process fats and sugar and etc properly. His cholesterol level was so high at one time it was almost off the chart. NOW, he is on a low chlosterol diet and it has brought his cholesterol level down. He also takes Tricor and Provocol (sp?) to control it.
Moral of the story: see your doctor regularly and be sure to check your cholesterol level.

Bear I know how hard that time must have been for you. I will not allow me or will ever to be out of touch with our doctor just for that fact of lipo and chol. I hope the stint is working as it should.. Usually the next thing if it doesnt take is a graft... Keep him healthy! Thats your task!

Love to both of you!

well i'm glad the doc caught it before ... well, i'm sending you lots & lots of good thoughts & squishy hugs. i'm having a complete lipo work up done with my 12 week labs on 4/10. my family is notorious diers of heart disease. 2 great grammas & a grandpa died of heart attacks my moms cholesterol is 465 with her triglycerides @ 1500, yess... 1500!! her father's is 560 with triglycerides 1565 . so... my ID just stared at me for a minute & agreed that closely monitoring my cholesterol is a good idea. i'm kinda nervous. my cholesterol was 118 down from 240 prior to starting the meds. cross your fingers.

Thanks Eric....it was a difficult time for me. I forgot to say: he is 48 and has been HIV positive for over 17 yrs. With an AIDS diagnosis for over 12 years. I posted this because someone had posted a message about a friend ( with AIDS) who had had a heart attack at 45 ( Kurt is 48).
It makes a big difference in terms of support when you have a partner. Hang on to him Eric.

Since thay have come up with the stents, the success rate with those is fabulous. You surely have had your hands full. Thinking of you and yours, and hoping the improvement improves greatly.

david.
