Adoption
      #162907 - 10/28/05 01:37 PM

My husband is HIV+ and we have gone through the sprem washing and IVF with no luck. We are moving toward adoption but I'm afraid that we won't be approved because of his HIV status. Has anyone adopted successfully with one parent being +?

I have many books on adoption since I have adopted, and parent(s) that are positive are not dispproved. They just have to show that they have a plan in place for if they happen to become sick. Particularly single HIV + parents. Adopt from the state - I live in Massachusetts, and they welcome everyone to adopt as long as they don't have a felon past. Everyone - married, single, gay couples. Plus they need parents so much that will love these childen that are legally orphans. PLUS, it will not only cost you NOTHING!! - but you will get financial assitance for a while or maybe longer depending on the issues the child may have!!! They need LOVE. and security and stability in their lives. You and your husband would be GREAT.

Sometimes the IVF and sperm washing take time and lots of tries.
Check into foster parenting to adoption.

That is exactly what I did - that is adopting through the state. My intention was to adopt from the start. If you want, you can choose to be foster parents, and then if you see it is working for you and you want to make the committment, then adopt. Good luck!
