Doctors can't tell you that it is safe. I can tell you, that I also had a baby with an undetectable viral load...and there were very few times my husband and I had unprotected sex, it scared the hell out of me...I cried every day. He gets tested once a year (just for safety measures, since we do have sex). He has been negative for 7 yrs. We are very consistant with condoms, but of course sometimes you think, that one minute will be okay. Its very scarey and I know, not worth risking, but if you are going to take those risks, your partner has to be brave enough to be tested. But even with an undetectable viral load.....it wouldn't be right for a physician to tell you that any unprotected sex will be ok. After our exposure I made him ask the doctor for PEP bcause I was so afraid, it made him so deathly ill that it is not worth the risk. All the best to you, I know its a hard and terrifying thing to go through, hoping that it will be okay. And I'm sure it is, but your partner has to own up to his actions also. Why is it neccessary that you know about your status to save your life, but his life isn't as important to him. I don't mean to assume, maybe he does get tested. Please assure him he is fine, but please be safe.....(ask him to try your meds for one week...then he might be more aware).

your doctor can't answer you cause there have been NO studies that show that even with an undetectable viral load someone cannot transmit HIV. Remember UNDETECTABLE does NOT mean nonexistent. It just mean that the currently used tests aren't sensitive to detect. But you still have plenty of HIV in your body.
