My stepdad w/ meningitis

I'm really in a sad mood now. About 7 months ago my stepdad was diagnosed with cryptoccocal meningitis. Someone who has always been free-spirited, outgoing and energetic..he's now just in and out of the hospital on so much medication it keeps him fatigue. I got a call from my mom today who told me that he's back in the hospital for the fourth time after a relapse with his medication because he's been vomiting so much and complaining of severe headaches. I'm such a curious person, always reading up on things especially illnesses whether one strikes me or my family because I like to be inform and know what I'm dealing with. I've been reading about his type of meningitis. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything positive outcomes about people with this type of illness. I even suggested to my mom that he get tested for HIV because I understand his infection is highly linked to people with HIV but he's afraid to have the test. What makes it even worse my mom brought up establishing a life insurance policy for my stepdad. Her exact words were "Heaven forbids if something were to happen to him today, I wouldn't have any money to bury him." I hate to think of the worse but when I here her mention life insurance policies..I cry, I worry..he's such a good person, any advice??? Please help..

OMG!!!! That is like the same exact thing that happened to me and my family except my stepfather contracted (PRP) a type of pnumonia thats only found in HIV patients and we never knew he had the diasese until he died which was only a couple of weeks ago. And all this happened because he was scared to get tested......please tell your stepfather to get tested even if he is scared before its to late and know one gets to say goodbye.....trust me it sucks.I promise I will keep your stepfather in my prayers.

I'm so sorry about your step dad. And thae fact that he's afraid to be tested is a foolish. Wisdom does't always come with age. I know you don't want to hear this hon but theres not much you can do if he doesn't want to. The only thing you can do is pray that God will open his minds eye. A friend of mine also had meningitis a few times . and Im sure it was the aids meds that kept him alive as long as he did. Yes he left us but hold on dont freak out , the dr gave him 3 months to live and that was 8 yrs ago. We cant stop the death process but we can delay it and enjoy life . Tell him not to stop fighting . Get tested already . there is nothing to fear but the unknown .
