I found out yesterday I am HIV+
      #1093 - 03/30/00 11:36 PM

Hello, My name is Christopher and I found out yesterday that I
have HIV. My boyfriend of seven months who I am very serious
about, has tested negative as of a few months ago. I am upset, of
course, but I am more afraid that he will not be interested in me
once we determine for sure that I am positive and he is negative.
I know that there are many precautions we can take to protect him
from becoming infected, and that we can still lead an active and
healthy sex life, but I think that I, as well as he, need
reassurance. Please help.

Christopher, I am hiv- and my partner is hiv+.I will tell you
that you will have a rocky road ahead of you for the next couple
of months. But there is hope.My partner and i have discontinued
having a sexual relationship since we found out( 5 months ago
).But we are planning a romantic weekend next weekend. We are
going to try to have a sexual relationship.I am not sure what the
outcome will be but we are going to try.Go to the local aids
clinic and get help.Learn everything you can about being hiv.Take
your partner with you and let him learn.LEARNING is the key to
this disease. When all the hysteria has died down, that is when
your "new" life will begin. There are alot of discordinate couples
out there.These relationships do work.

I hope you are doing okay new

Hi Christopher: I hope you are doing ok. The first few weeks and
months after you test positive are difficult. I hope you are
getting some support--there are lots of great groups. I know when
I first tested positive I was in a group and it helped so much.
Telling your boyfriend is a great test of love. I hope he meets
it. Kenny R.

It gets better new
      #1096 - 03/30/00 11:43 PM

Christopher: The first few days after diagnosis are often the most frightening. Trust me, it does get easier and you will soon see that life DOES go on after HIV. Let me tell you a story....Three years ago I met the most wonderful man over AOL. We talked for several months on the computer and then, after that, by phone. I lived in Atlanta at the time and he lived in Washington, DC. As chance would have it, I had to travel to DC for business and we decided to finally meet. He met me at the airport and that was the beginning of what, I believe, to be the most important day of my life.

A year into out long distance relationship, I tested positive for HIV and one week later was told that I had full-blown AIDS. My lab values (T-cells = 65, Viral Load 444,000) made the picture for my future relatively grim. What I failed to mention is that my boyfriend was at the physician's office with me when I heard the diagnosis. And, after two years, we have both moved to California and plan on spending the rest of our lives together.

He is negative.....we do take every precaution regarding SAFE SEX that is possible and we still manage to have a wonderful and HOT sex life. Trust me, if this man really cares about you and most of all, YOU care about yourself....his love will not falter...it will only grow with time and become stronger.

My advice to you is.....find a physician that you trust and utilizies the most current treatments and STICK TO THEM. Currently my T-cells have rebounded to over 300 and my Viral load has been undetectable for over two years.

Keep your chin up and let those that you care about care for YOU during this difficult time. Also, don't lose sight of the fact that your HIV is not just about you.....it's about every one that loves. You CAN beat it.....it's only a virus and we can all kick it's ASS!!

Take care, my friend.

Marc
