any good resources about transmission?
      #1076 - 03/30/00 11:23 PM

I am a 27 yr old female who was diagnosed hiv+ 4 months ago. I
started my meds and w/in a month had gotten the virus to an
undetectable state and my CD4 count up. I am dealing w/ things
pretty well mostly b/c my family and the few friends I have
chosen to share the news with have been tremendously supportive.
My concern now is trying to deal with my relationship with my
hiv- boyfriend. We had only been dating for about 2 months when I
got the news and since then he has been so great going through
everything with me. I desperately need some advice, support,
stories of similar hiv+ female/hiv- male couples and how they
have worked through relationship/sex issues. Also, I've found
that most studies tend to track hiv+ males and the chances of
passing the virus to their partners as opposed to my situation.
Any suggested resources or personal stories?

your boyfriend sound amazing new
      #1079 - 03/30/00 11:24 PM

Sounds like this boyfriend is amazing! You gotta use protection
though. The statistics I think are that it's three times as
likely for a women to get it from a man than a man from a woman.
But that doesn't mean lots of men don't get HIV from women. They
do. It just means a condom must always be used. There is a
woman's organization for women with HIV/AIDS called WORLD they
are in Oakland Calif and they have retreats and
conference--sometimes you can get scholarships to go. Anyway
Rebecca who is their director has been married for 12 years to an
HIV negative man. They had twin girls a year ago who are both
negative. You gotta join a group of women to see that lots of
women manage to have HIV negative men in their life. It's the
quality of love that counts. The quality of caring. And an
unselfish man (which is a rare thing!) (I'm sure there are lots
more negative women with positive men--for that reason...women
tend to be givers and men takers) So if you've got yourself a man
who does not run--wow! If you love him try your best to keep him!
