FIANCE JUST DIAGNOSED LOOKING FOR ADVICE/SUPPORT

Well hello to you all.

My finace has also just been diagnosed with HIV (just Wens) and has started on a cocktail of 5 drugs. Don't know what his tcell count is but viral load is about 90. I am feeling quite alone, confused, angry and scared. We have been together off and on for about ten years and have a 4 year old daughter. My biggest concern is that he seems so ill. Already had pneumonia (In december), has lost about 50 pounds, has thrush all the time, coughs wickedly, runs fevers and has those god awful night sweats. Is this a bad sign? He just started medication on Friday but that seems to make him feel worse. He has been losing energy and weight for about three years now and since decenber has been tested for HIv three times. The first two came back inconclusive. The only people who know about this are his parents and myself. He does not/is not ready to tell anyone about this for fear of rejection and how our child will be treated, not to mention his job!
Any of you that can offer advice/support or tell me what I can expect? Does he have the same life expectancy as anyone else? Have any of you or your children suffered because of your spouses diagnosis? Any info is greatly appreciated.

There are some very good resources on this site which you can use. I suggest you ask an expert and I m sure they will say that if your fiance has a good regimen that he sticks to that you can expect a good life.

Your fiance is in danger of dying if he doesn't commit to take all his medications. It will be hard to get used to them at first but if he takes every dose on time, he'll do fine. Does he see an HIV specialist??? Does the specialist have more then 20 patients with HIV/. THIS IS CRUCIAL!

Best of luck. Maybe you can have him join a group? ANd you need support too. HIV is hard for everyone!!
