My CD4 count has dropped to about 467. My VL is 2210 (no worries). What are some things that I can do to bring my CD4 count back up to 800-1,000? Suggestions are much appreciated. Does diet affect this, sleep, etc.

Are you on MEDS??
If not you can do the whole vitamin routine. That might boosts your CD$ counts

B12, exercise, lots of sleep may help. Who knows, it could be just a low point...but you'll bounce back next time. Maybe get on an Il-2 study?

I am not currently taking meds, my doc says that my counts are not at the treatable range yet, in her opinion. What kind of vitamin regimen are you suggesting and are there any side effects to taking these vitamins?

You can read about it here. http://www.thebody.com/nmai/interleukin.html
It's an experimental drug that is an immune therapy. It helps raise cd4 counts. In any case, it is used with the usual aids treatment. I'm not sure if it is used for people not yet on treatment.

Yes! Diet, sleep....those affect people without HIV. Just taking as good of care of yourself as possible. I personally believe (and have read) that a multi-vitamin daily (I also take extra C, [betacarotene and e when can afford!]) boosts the immune system. Stress is something to avoid...or at least severe or unrelenting. Regular exercise (I do some, need to do more). Meditation, prayer, yoga, music, anything else you may be into that helps to relax you and keep you "centered". The mind is a powerful tool. Glad you are wanting to help yourself....being kind of a physician's assistant! I think we have to just start doing some things for ourselves, whatever works and helps.

I just wanted to say thank you for all the insight. I am trying to get myself on a regular schedule of diet, sleep and exercise. I appreciate all your input. Thank you!
PS. I started taking a multivitamin and it makes me pretty sick to my stomache, I don't drink milk, (I'm a vegan) and soy milk doesn't coat my stomache? Any Ideas...

One of the most overlooked and least known facts is that the chlorine and dissolved solids in water destroy large parts of the immune system. Start immediatly on bottled distilled water. Drink it, cook with it, make all your beveredges with it. Also put a declorination filter on your shower. Get this at a bottled water store and there only. They usualy have good ones. From the time I started on distilled water I have had total remission of asthma and asthmatic allergies. This same chlorine in all city water also destroys the parts of the immune system that stop all virsus including Aids and cancer. This is not all you need to know. There is more but is too long to put here. Please write me at harveyholloway@msn.com and give me the street address of your choice. I will mail full details. Harvey.

Sweet heart, that is not a terrible CD4 count, really. We should all be so lucky! CD4 counts are also very individual. There are certainly normal ranges but if you look closely the range is large. It sounds like you are really doing well. I do agree with the other person though that distilled water is very important. I do not know about the CD4 link (I am ignorant to this) but pure water reduces the risk of other parasitic infections which can bother people with HIV.

Yes, some vitamins will upset your stomach. Always take them with food to reduce any possible nausea. Always take Ester C over ascorbic acid too. Ascorbic acid can cause diarrhea and stomach ache. Also, the body better absorbs Ester C because it is chelated with calcium. Buy the book "Nutritional Gude to Healing" for recommendations if you have not done so already. Make sure there are no funky herbs in the vitamin you are taking. St. John's Wort for instance interferes with the effectiveness of many HIV meds.

There is a whole vitamin guide and regime in "Prescription for Nutritional Healing," (authors Phyllis A. Balch) for people with AIDS or HIV. It is available online at Amazon.com or at GNC Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1583330771/ref=pd_bxgy_text_1/104-9247036-8825527?v=glance&s=books&st=*
