Can anyone make me a raw prognostic?
      #81553 - 01/20/04 07:12 AM

Hello,

I am a 36 years old man.
I am a professional.
And I am healthy.
But I still smoke.

I was diagnosed at the age of 30.
For the first 3 years I was on ddi and zerit and Hydroxiurea (HU) during witch I achieved a full vl suppression after 6 months of therapy.
At the age of 33 my doctor and me agreed to stop the medication.
Now at the age of 36 I am with 800 CD4s and 25000VL.

Can anyone make me a raw prognostic of when should I expect to start therapy again?
Can anyone make me a raw prognostic of when should I expect my quality of life to start being strongly reduced due to medications side effects and complications?

Thanks,
Luis

What were your VL and CD4s before you started medication?

800 T cells is great! No one can read the future but you can talk to Dr. Pierone on this site. He really knows about stopping therapy. http://www.thebody.com/Forums/AIDS/Starting/
Plus there is a whole bunch of information on this subject:

I agree, you're doing great and I'm not sure you needed to be on therapy in the first place. I think you've got a long way to go.

Best,
Basquo

Those are great numbers. You will not need meds for at leaste another year. If you do try susteva and combivir. They are very well tollerated and 90% of people who try this regimen remain on it for over five years. The last regimen that you were on was by no means user freindly.

The sustiva can case problems with sleep when you first start taking it so ask for a sleeping pill called ambien to help you get through that. Most people get over this side effect quickly though.

By your numbers and time interval I would say that you have 40 years left. Just remember, don't go back on those harsh drugs.

Scott
