I just found out this afternoon that my older brother has aids, I was shocked to say the least. he would like me not to tell anyone. that means not even my mother.
but here is the catch, he also has hepitits b and c. he has been a drug user for 22 years and has no plans on stopping. he wants my approval that it is okay to drink and do drugs cause it would make him feel better.(?) he says that he knows his time is up and he wants to do what he wants with it. I don't know if I should tell his exboyfriend or not? I really don't know what to make of all of this.
I think my real question is how long does he have if he continues to use drugs?, can he take his meds if he is still using?, he does not want to talk about this with me, he made me promise that I would give him a proper funeral and that his ex wife not attend? any help would be greatly apprecitated. thank you

If he continues using he probably has less than a year, but if he gets clean and starts HAART he could live many more years. It sounds as if he has made up his mind. See my post under "husband in denial" regarding disclosure of PHI.

If he sees a really good HIV specialist who has experience with drug users and hepatitis C maybe he can be helped. There are drug users who take their HIV medications and do ok. But he has to want to. He has to want to survive. He seems compelled to die. He wants to committ suicide. Tell him you love him and that he does have a choice and that you are disappointed that he's made the choice to die.
