Hi everyone. I recently had a battery of tests done for STDs. I tested negative for everything (including HIV) except Hepatitis B. (I know this is an HIV board, but I can't find any info on HepB on the web) So to anyone who also has HepB....what is my life expectancy? I know no one has a crystal ball, but does anyone know what the average is? A friend of mine told me that HepB is a progressive disease that destroys the liver, and down the road I will either need a liver transplant (which has a low rate of success) or die. My friend said that there are anti-viral drugs like Interlukin that can keep the virus suppressed, but eventually he said the HepB will become resistant and take over. So I was wondering what the life expectancy is - Id like to know so I can get my affairs in order beforehand. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the link, but it didn't answer my question. Anybody know how long I have to live with HepB...that is after it becomes resistant to meds? Thanks.

First of all, there are tons of informative websites on hepatitis. I suggest you put in several searches. Secondly, I would make an appt. with a gastroenterologist who specializes in liver disease. There are several things you can do to promote good liver health. Stop worrying about dying, get as much information as you can, and think positively.

Why assume you'll become resistant? This site has plenty of stuff: http://www.thebody.com/treat/hepatit_b.html You can also ask an experienced doctor a question: http://www.thebody.com/Forums/AIDS/Hepatitis/

Well, I did pass my question to the doctor on The Body's site, but it was never answered. From my recent research, some people will "pass" the infection and be ok and others will become "chronic" and face liver failure and death. I guess its a crapshoot whether you are able to pass it or you face chronic Hepatitis B.

I didn't think Hep B was such a big problem. It though it was more like A, which doesn't cause too much problem. I though C was the one that stayed with you and could destroy you liver.
