Hi, I am not sure this is the best place to ask my question but I am hoping that someone else has had the same problem as me and can share there story and give me some advice.
I have had really bad trouble with my tonsils ever since I was about about 15 I am now 22 and been HIV+ for a year and I was wondering if I should have my tonsils removed, My doctor does not know I am HIV+ says I should, the ENT specialist does not know I am HIV+ said that they are not doing the job anymore and I should have them taken out, But my HIV specialist said that I should no have them taken out as we do not know what job they are doing controlling my viral load.
I am not on Meds I have a great CD4 count above 700. Has anyone else been in the same situation as me?
Please can you share you advice and let me know what you think is best.
Thanks in advance

Well, I may be crazy, but I am 52 and still have my tonsils and probably have had HIV since 1983. Never been sick and didn't start meds until 3 years ago. My tonsils gave me hell for several years with constant infections but finally settled down. They have become almost vestigial, but I am glad I kept them. I think there is a possibility that they helped keep other infections at bay for years!

Ok Well I Think You should tell your first doctor you are HIV+ anyway and if they are swollen and bothering you you should remove them ( my tonsils are gone and I'm undetectable.)Be Prepared to go on Meds if needed they work I'm Going on 5 years and Im am good and healthy - T cells are around 700 and rising and VL is undetectable

Keep your tonsils and stay off the meds. Your tonsils are part of your immune system (lymph).
