Hi, I am in the beginning stages of dialysis. My T-cells are currently 112, my viral load 40,000. Not great but better than they have been in years. Anyway, I am wondering if anyone else has been in this same situation that may be able to give me some insight and direction on how to handle the situation. Please help if you can. Thanks.

Back in 1997 I had CMV retinitis and I was doing IV Gancyclovir and then I did a couple of treatments with Cidofovir until I recieved my Gancyclovir implant (in the eye). I believe that the Cidofovir damaged my kidneys. My lab values started to decline at that point. Currently my creatinine serum level is 5.1 with my BUN 6.5. In 1997 it started at 2.7 for the creatinine serum level.

What a history you have! My friend had CMV retinitis and is practically blind...no kidney problems though. I guess the meds didn't work. How's your vision? By the way, are you seeing an experienced HIV specialist...cause sometimes they have interesting solutions to these problems like you mentioned.

I did lose peripheral vision in my right eye. It has had it's effects but thankfully I was diagnosed and got treatment right away. I do see an AIDS specialist and he does a good job. Currently I am using Fuzeon, Invirase, Rescriptor, D4T, 3TC, Norvir, Viread for my HIV. My numbers have been going up (and down) to better levels than I have had in many years. I have recently (past 3 months) had so much energy and have not felt this good in ten years. It is hard to believe but I am enjoying every second of it that I can. I am seeking information pertaining to people with AIDs that are on Dialysis. I have tried all the normal sites and organizations. I just know that there has to be research out there on the topic. I just like to keep informed.
