I dont know if anyone would have a clue about this - but I am getting tested this week - the thing is my fiance lives in America and I live in the UK - he is aware of my position at the moment and is very supportive - but we had planned to marry here and live there - yet I am wondering whether being H.I.V + would prevent me from becoming resident in another country. If no-one is able to answer would anyone know where I could find information on the subject - thankyou #8-) - perhaps a silly worry as I havent even had the test yet but I am worrying about my future. Help if you can please. Do I sound quite calm - I just realised what a weird question that sounds like for someone who is on the brink of discovering whether they have a terrible illness - relief I am facing my worst fears I suppose - now I am wondering if I am being normal being so rational. I may not be in a few weeks - I'll let you all know how it goes - Tuesday is the test by the way

I belive it would be very hard to become a resident in the US. But I would not make any plans unitl you know for sure if you are neg or pos.

In the US, the only way you can get round the immigration laws is if you have a legitimate heterosexual marriage, which is protected by the 14th Amendment. I went through this but I was already in the US. But whether it is better to marry in abroad and then try for residency etc, is doubtful. I would talk with a lawyer in the US who specialises in this. In the UK, talk with Lisa Powers at the Terrence Higgins Trust Policy Department.

As far as i am awair there is not requirement to be tested for HIV for immigration into the UK, I think it was talked about but not implamented. If you go to www.bbc.co.uk , then the news section and type HIV immigration there are prob some stories on this.
I think they were going to make it a law to get tested because of the increasing amounts of infected people from 3rd world countries applying for perminant resadence and becoming a strain on the National health service.
Hope that helped.
