i am an hiv male living in Sydney...
      #534 - 03/30/00 07:39 PM

Iam a HIV positive male living in Sydney, Australia. Ive been HIV
positive for 13 years, have seen all of my friends die during the
80's. I dont know why I have been spared their fate. My health
did start declining during 1994, although I have not had any
major infections. I started seeing a doctor in Sydney who turned
my health and my attitute around. This doctors energy,
understanding and committment in helping fight this epidemic is
brilliant. I have been on different types of therapy since 1994
and (AZT,3TC,D4T,Saqunavir,Rintonovir etc) each has helped in its
own way, although I did have side effect problems with rintonovir
and have since ceased this, Iam shortly to go on a Nevirapine,
3TC, D4T combination. One saving grace to all this is the
accesability of treatments in Australia and the fact that all
these drugs are subsidised by the government and cost a max of
$20.00 per bottle or obtained free via a special access scheme.
My CD4's are up to an amazing 1,200 and viral load has been below
dedection for the last three testings. For me my life has turned
around, I have a HIV negative partner of six months, developed
new friendships and we enjoy our lives together. Thanks to the
current batch of treatments lots of support and a groovy doctor
who understands, Iam loving life. Cheers.
