I have to pick my treatment now (positive for 8 years and only now do I need treatment cause viral load went up and tcells went down)and I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions for first choice of therapy...I heard sustiva with two nrtis would be powerful. Anyone on that? My doctor thinks it's ok not to starte with a protease inhibitor...

Research SUSTIVA before you go on it . If you tollerate hallucinations and feeling just like you are high most of the time ( my story , and others) try it but really just post "Tell Me Your Experience With Sustiva' and read the replies . Good health to you .

Hi. I know someone who is on Kaletra (as part of a cocktail = sorry don't know the other 2),and said they have experienced NO side effects from it; have read that it has a good side effect profile as well. Very best wishes to you! Karla

I wouldn't be afraid of sustiva if you are a well-balanced person. It didn't bother me and it's strong and you can save the protease inhibitors for later. They have more side effects that are worse then sustiva. Anyway, the sustiva side effects go away after a few weeks...the protease inhibitor side effects do not.

I have been on Sustiva and Combivir for going on 4 years. I never had hallucinations, I did have very weird dreams in the beginning (they mostly went away after 6 months tho) One or two every now and then, but it's hard to prove it's the Sustiva. Also as for feeling high most of the time, most people take it at night, so they sleep through most of the "high" side effects. I usually take mine around 10 and I will admit by 11 I'm not much good to anyone.
I did have a few friends who weren't able to tolerate it. Some people get a rash that won't go away. Others just can't stand the feeling they get when they are on it.
I've had very few side effects at all. The combivir was harder for me to take then the Sustiva.
Hope that helps some
Gregg
