Hi, are there anyone here infected with HIV1 with non-B subtype? Did you get dx by standard HIV1 antibody test? The reason I'm asking this because I may got infected in Asia and I don't know if current HIV1 antibodies test can pick it up? Thanks.

Hi,
I'm also having the same dilemma re possible exposure in Asia. I have spent a lot of time on the web looking at various sites and read that(can't remember where unfortunately) HIV tests (in the UK at least) check all known subtypes of HIV-1 so should cover E which is prevalent in Asia I believe. I'll try and remember where I saw it so you can check for yourself but you might find similar info by using one of the search engines. Hope all goes well for you.

I think all there is no problem detecting other subtypes except maybe O and N which are rare and from Africa. See link. Good Luck
