I came down with text book Acute HIV Infection three weeks ago after having unsafe sex. My lymph nodes got swollen and achy, I got these little shivers running through my body, I feel like I have bleach in my veins. I'm tired and sweat constantly. I feel so stupid. I have messed up my life and those that care for me. Is this what beig HIV+ feels like? I got some HIV drugs from a friend and I feel a little better but I still feel real sick. I hear this isnt a death sentence but I know people who are resistant to the cocktails and the longer you take them the more chance of that happening. Should I stop taking the drugs now and just let this virus take over and watch my t-cell count drop before starting the regiment? Please I need to hear from longterm nonprogessors.

Unless you started the drugs under a doctors supervision 24 to 36 hours after a KNOWN exposure (PEP) you shouldn't be taking any drugs.
1) You don't even know if you are HIV positive. There is a very good chance you are taking drugs that are not necessary.
2) If you are postive, taking drugs improperly can cause more harm. Besides, the current guidelines are to wait until your CD4 count is 350 or below or your VL is 30,000 or above.
There really is no 'text-book' cases of ARS. You just can not be diagnosing yourself. Get tested and get the facts first. Deal with it from there.
