My lover had this. He used an anti-seizure drug called Neurontin (gapapentin). Also Vitamin B12 is good given by injection into a muscle every couple of weeks. There are good articles on this site about this.

I can sympathize - I had it so bad that walking was more painful than I can describe. Mine was caused by d4T (Zerit). I read an article in the STEP newsletter, talking about treating it with alpha lipoic acid. I looked up information on it, and figured it was worth a try. Within 24 hours I started having relief and within 48 hours down to a faint tingle (150 mg divided dose per day). I continued to take it, now 3 years later, (300-400 mg divided dose per day) still have relief. Alpha lipoic acid has a number of additional benefits, as it is an antioxidant, reduces high blood sugar, and several other things. There are a number of articles regarding it. It has been studied for relief of neuropathy in diabetics primarily. For me it was a miracle, and not toxic until about 30,000 mg per day.
My doctor is impressed by the result, as he said with all of the pharmaceuticals, he didn't think he could do as well.
Is worth a try, as it is not expensive and no noted side effects, other than in diabetics, blood sugar needs to be watched and insulin dose adjustment.
