I've been on the same cocktail for over 3 years now:Crixivan, Delaverdine (sp?), & Viracept (Tried, d4t, 3tc, ddi & ddc..major neuropathy problems. Azt made me vrey sick!). I've had below 50 copies viral load for 3 years (the old "un-detectable" load), but my cd4's have NEVER gotten higher than 179. Now, while a lot of guys I know are on the same or similar combo have seen their cd4's skyrocket, mine just hang in there between 140-170.My question is this: I've been reading, and have heard from others, that sometimes a change to a different protease inhibitor, or just a new cocktail period WILL increase your cd4's (or can increase your cd4's). I've asked my doctor about that, and he said "Nope, if you're cd4's were going to go up, they would have by then. Basically you have a damaged immune system that will never get repaired." So, I'm not THRILLED about having a damaged immune system even though the viral load is ND. Is my Doc right, or can different P.I's or cocktails make a DIFFERENCE in your cd4 count?

You've still got a viral load below 50 copies? Don't even think of changing. Be thrilled that you've got between 140 and 170 cd4's. Some of us just never see a cd4 rise. Some of us never even saw an undetectable viral load. Keep in mind, this is a virus that mutates. That means it starts developing mutations around the drugs it's seen. That narrows your options later on. If you stay with what seems to be working for you, you're luckier than a lot of the rest of us, who have no options left, since we're currently resistant to ALL available meds.
