Do any fellow HIV + peoples know what causes coated tongue(overgrowth of papilae)? I use a tongue cleaner and brush, but every morning it's still there. I dont suffer from dry mouth and feel somewhat o.k., and it doesn't cause any pain. I heard once it may be realted to t-cells but inable to verify. I'm also unable to find anything on this condition on the medical sites. All I know is that I've had it since my ARS last summer.
Thanks

Thanks Are you speaking of Thrush? It's something that anyone can get if they have an impaired immune system ,it's bacterial & often treated by mycostantin swish and swallow to relieve the irritation.

If you're talking about thrush, it's not bacterial--it's fungal, and diflucan orally treats it very well. If Nystatin works, great, but I like the big guns better--Diflucan takes care of it, and it may not come back for a great while. I have 5 T helper cells, and don't have thrush due to diflucan. Nystatin didn't really help, nor did Mycelex troches.
