Alternative Med funding
      #28644 - 02/22/02 03:09 PM

I live in Seattle Washington and my primary source of care is Bastyr and Northwest Institute of Oriental Medicine. My problem is that year after year the funds for these programs are being whittled away. I am low income and have no insurance. I rely solely on alternative therapies although I do consult with a Western Doc about my blood tests. It's kinda sad that the government would fully fund my meds and doc visits if I were into Western Bio medicine, but since I use alternative therapies my treatments are often underfunded and require me to pay many expenses out of pocket. So much for freedom of choice. I dont think it is much diffrent for people with insurance, I'm told unless you choose a Western modality your insurance probably will not help. I'd like to correspond with others and brainstorm on how to protect our rights as healthcare consumers, specificly how do we protect our right to chose a given modality. Thanks, Eric erictaekwondo@yahoo.com

Hi Eric:

It's a state funding issue. New York provides free vitamins and other complementary meds in ADAP. Maybe even California does.
