WITCHES
Witches make potions and spells,
old women conjure romance.
Clans feed legends,
sanction weddings,
protect a totem carved in stone.
She's beautiful,
fixed like a butterfly,
collected by men.
In wet dark places dreams evolve,
demons of delight feed a flame
that slowly burns alone,
wrap memories in cobwebs that confine the dead,
mark birth-scars on sacred stones
that no-one can heal.
