Insurance companies and ADAP
      #271925 - 05/03/13 11:51 PM

So my partner and I are talking about entering a domestic partnership because his employer offers insurance to same-sex couples with patnership.

I'm not sure how this all works though. I'm currently on ADAP and they're pushing me to get insurance through my work which isn't available until December but his benifits would become effective when they get a certificate of partnership.

When this all becomes effective do I make an appointment with a doctor covered by their insurance and let ADAP know that i'm not going through them anymore?

Does anyone have any experience with insurance and HIV? If so, what are the copays for the medications?

One thing that comes to my mind is whether pre-exsisting matters to whatever insurance you choose, Plus you may want to consider just waiting for your own insurance to kick in . Reason being , and I'm going to play as they say " devil's advocate" , if something everhappens that causing you to break up , or if lets say your partner passes for some strange reason , ( remember this is just a for instance) would you still be covered under his , or would you be up a creek without a paddle. Would it be feasible to be covered under both? Be sure you have the answers to all questions before you make a decision. Co-payments can add up .

I would like to say yes but if your carrying another insurancer I'm really not sure. You would be best off if you called and asked someone within the company. Again always research with questions so that you can make an educated choice. Let me know how it goes for the sake of my curious knowledge.
