In a bind
      #261318 - 02/21/12 12:11 AM

Well, after tons of filling out paperwork to various agencies, I have been denied from ADAP, Social Security Insurance, and any form of disability. State will not help without a $3000 copay per month for MA. I am full blown status at 30 for my CD4 count. I was even denied a research project because my cells are too low. How about that? I can not get life insurance, health insurance; hard to work full time. It is amazing that in 2012 certain things are unattainable due to money. and yet my brother is getting drugs for his Cystic Fibrosis at a cost of 1/4 million per year. yes, 1/4 million. the state has no problem picking that cost up...but Atripla at 1900 per month is too much. This is so much fun!

first of all, you have to get a doctor that will declare you disabled....once ya do that, call BINDER & BINDER. if they accept your case, you WILL win.

i speak from experience, i was in a coma for 4 mos. and had many OI's going on, doctors declared me disabled immediately, however the government denied me a court hearing for almost 3 years....i called B&B and they not only got my disability they got me every bit of back pay clear back to the first day off work.

Sadly, i learned that with an aids diagnosis, S.S disability puts you off, hoping that you will either get well enough to work again, or die.... either way, they then wouldnt have to release your money! Get in there & fight....

ask your doctor to contact the drug manufacturer until then, so you get your meds started asap.

It is an exhausting pain in the ass fight but instead of getting discouraged get mad and let that anger be your energy to fight the needed fight. And keep in mind the retroactive pay off in the end. Meanwhile just keep doing what you got to do. You can always voice your fustrations here. But lawyers do make the difference.

I saw this on another thread here:

"There is a national program to help HIV+ people pay for their meds, co-pays and lab work, even if they're working or undocumented.

If you are in NYC please call (718)399-0200 for more information. Ask for the Medical Benefits Program. "
