I've been taking Atripula since about august 2010. Before they started me on the pill my viral load was 2698385. One month later its at 24483.. Jan 2011 it was at 4742.. and I just went two days ago and its at 591.. My doctor mentioned it takes some people longer for it to go undetectable. Is this true? My cd4 went from 180 in jan to 260. Now I've battling a really bad cold right now and I'm sure that is going to play a part in that as well. I almost getting scared, but I don't know if I need to be. So any input would be great. Thanks

It sounds to me like you're doing pretty well! Yes, it will take some time to bring the VL under control in certain individuals and considering how high yours was at onset, it will also take some time for your body to restore your CD4 cells. Read this article: http://www.thebody.com/content/art61426.html . According to the findings, if you had a slow decline in CD4 cells, you'll more than likely also have a slow rise. That does NOT mean it won't keep rising. Don't lose hope! You're doing just fine.

If your counts go down a wee bit don't worry. It's more about the viral load percentages. Many of us , just like everyone else gets colds. Our meds actually make our systems stronger to fight things off but that doesn't mean it's ok to walk into a room full of folks battling the flu. But minor colds and allergies are nothing to be worried over. Just continue to eat well excercise and get your rest and the rest will fall into place.

were all different, and some people do take longer. your v-load was very high, just keep on the meds, eat right and dont miss your appointments. your doc is your best freind now, and will tell you if you need to change anything. dont get discouraged, eventually the number will be undetectable, provided your doing what the doc wants, stress and drugs will work against you like not taking medicine. undetectable will happen it just takes time, and we all respond in different way to medicines. keep going with it, you will see.take care

Hi dee!
I have to agree with everyone else - your viral load was extremely high, so it is going to take a bit for it to fall to undetectable. The important indicator that the Atripla meds are working is that it went down almost exponentially over a reasonable amount of time, considering where you started. Also, your CD4's are sure to take a while to bounce back.
As the others said, while your CD4's are rising, eat well and take very good care of yourself, and I'm sure you will have the numbers you are looking for soon. Taking a multivitamin with zinc and vitamins C & D is a good way to safely give your body a boost. There are lots of articles here on this site about the importance of these vitamins and minerals in the health of HIV patients.
I'm glad your numbers are headed in the right direction. Keep an eye on them and your nutrition and work closely with your doctor. I know it's tough to be patient, but I think you will be successful. Keep in touch!
