I contacted the professor of this research, here is an update on this research:
Update:
> Good afternoon Sir; > > I read the article on fighting HIV with Cancer drugs. I would like to commend you on this research. I was diagnosed with HIV last year and I just had a few questions: > > Do you think this will be available to treat patients with HIV in the next year or two?
not likely that soon > > Since the drugs are currently available to treat cancer, will this expedite the process of making it available to HIV patients? > yes > Will these cancer drugs also work on latent HIV virus in the body to eradicate it? > presently, would only expect this to work with virus reactivated from the latent reservoir. > When do you expect the human clinical trials to begin? > after pill forms are developed and tested preclinically for anti-HIV activity > Thank you very much in advance.

Another update from the professor working on this research:
Update:
> Thank you so much for responding. I spoke with my doctor today and informed him about this research. He informed me that these drugs can wipe out the white blood cells in the body and could leave the body vulnerable and could kill you. > > From your research does this sound feasible? > They are both cancer drugs, so at high enough doses they are clearly toxic. Our experiments with HIV indicate that they can be used to effect HIV with no effect on cells. How well this works in humans is not known right now.
