I am currently infected with a virus in the HIV family It is called Xenotropic murine leukemia virus related virus (XMRV) and is responsible for my HIV like illness and symptoms (chronic oral thrush shingles ect) It is a retro virus that incorporates itself into my dna. The Dr's have found that raltegravir inhibits this virus and I am going to start taking it. My question is what side effects can I expect and is it well tolerated, It is a little scary being prescribed anti HIV drugs, but I am hopeful it will improve my condition. thank you for your time

Here a site with a quick rundown on it. It's one of the newer drugs out. First in it's class. I'm not on it so I can't speak to the side effects or how well tolerated it is.

Hi, Ive been on Raltegravir (Isentress) for around a year now. Its well tolerated, I have to take the tablet twice daily 7am and 7pm. The only slight side effects I have are tiredness and a little trouble in sleeping - but these problems could also be the result of other HIV meds that Im on.
Regards Darryl

I can live with that if it helps my condition. Thanks allot man. it is a little freaky that they use the same meds, but if they work it's worth it. Thanks again for taking the time to tell me.

I'm on raltegravir and truvada for about 6 months now. No side effects to speak of. Started with Atripla and couldn't tolerate the Sustiva CNS effects. It is well documented that raltegravir is one of the best tolerated of HIV meds. Good Luck.
