RE: Remembering Ryan White

Ryan White, an Indiana rural teenager, died of AIDS 20 years ago, April 8,1990, at age 18. In honor of his enduring legacy, the Rural Center for AIDS/STD Prevevention and the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at Indiana University will host a remembrance event on April 9, 2010 at Indiana University, Bloomington.

Ryan became a national poster child for AIDS when he was expelled from school because of his illness. Douglas Kirby, PhD, senior research scientist at ETR Associates and Jeanne White Ginder, Ryan's mother, will speak. Jill S. Waibel, M.D., a teenage friend of Ryan who was instrumental in his acceptance to Hamilton Heights High School in Cicero, Indiana, will be honored. Attached is information about the event. Pictures and videos of the remembrance will be placed on the RCAP website following the event.
